There are so many things we could be using our garage spaces for, but often they end up being a dumping ground for whatever we can’t find a home for inside the house. If you don’t store your car in your garage and are looking to make the most of the space, then it’s time to clear it out and put it to good use. If you like to garden, then you can use your garage for this, it might just take the help of storage in London to create the space you need.

    Clearing space in your garage

If you want to turn your garage into the perfect gardening haven, then you first need to clear some space inside it. This may involve getting rid of some things and finding alternative storage for others. First of all, sort through all the clutter and decide if there’s anything you can throw out, sell, or donate to a charity shop.

Whatever’s left over is assumedly for keeping. Decide what you can keep in your garage and what will need to be moved. You might find homes for some things inside your house. Everything else can be put into a storage unit if you don’t need to use it immediately. You can hire storage in London at affordable prices, providing you with a secure, temporary space to store your things.

Storing garden tools in your garage

Now that you’ve got space in your garage, you can use that space to store the things you need for gardening. Tools like the lawn mower, rakes, spades, hoes, trowels, etc., can all be kept inside your garage. To make sure they’re not just causing clutter, you could add a storage system to your garage so that they are efficiently organized.

Fitting peg boards or hooks to the walls of your garage is an efficient way to store garden tools without taking up too much floor space. You can even buy magnetic tool hangers to pin them to the wall. Shelves are also good for storing things like plant pots and fertiliser.

    Growing plants and overwintering

Not only is your garage great for gardening-related storage, it can also be a good space for actually growing things. This is especially true over winter when you want to protect certain plants from the cold, wet, and windy weather. For plants and even vegetables that don’t grow well over winter, your garage can become their safe haven.

Here are a few things to consider when gardening in your garage:

    • Light – Plants obviously need light. If your garage has windows, then that’s an added bonus because your plants can get access to natural light every day. Try to position them so they get as much sunlight as possible. If your garage is windowless, you will need some artificial light to help your plants grow.
    • Temperature – You need to make sure your garage doesn’t reach freezing temperatures when overwintering your plants. You should hang a thermometer up in your garage to monitor the temperature so you know if you need to heat the space. The optimum temperature will vary depending on what you are growing.

    • Water – Since your plants won’t have access to rainwater, you need to make sure you are keeping them well-watered. Again, the amount of watering they need will depend on what you are growing. Make sure they are getting enough without being over-watered.
    • Space – Hopefully, you created enough space to grow your plants in. Plants need plenty of space to grow, so you should make sure you’re not placing them too close to each other. If they are too cramped, their growth will be inhibited.

Clear out the junk and put your garage to good use. Once winter is over, you’ll be able to reintroduce your plants to your garden, helping created amazing spring and summer blooms.
